A Quantum Perspective on the US Elections

Everyone's been talking about it for the past...well it seems like forever. But now it's finally here I thought it would be interesting to get the Quantum Tarot's perspective on this historic and pivotal election.

So here's how the drama might play out over the next couple of days. This is not intended as a prediction - I don't believe that the future is fixed in that way - more a snapshot of the underlying energies of the moment.

1. What will be the general mood on Election day?
8 of Swords
Looks like quite a few people are going to have problems voting. The anticipated high turnout may result in long queues and frustration. And the sneaking fears of a replay of the underhand shenanigans of 2000 (and 2004) may boil to the surface, and some people may feel that they have been robbed of their vote, or that they are being prevented from voting. Looks like a heated, fearful and poisonous atmosphere may well be the order of the day. Whether this is borne out in the result is another matter.

2. What are the prospects for Barack Obama over the next couple of days?
4 of Wands
Looks good, doesn't it? Maybe not the immediate, unambiguous victory of the 6 of Wands, but the 4 indicates a time of celebration, of people coming together and sharing something positive. After the fear and loathing of that 8 of Swords, it looks like things will gradually start to look rosy for Obama as the results come in.

3. What are the prospects for John McCain over the next couple of days?
5 of Pentacles
The 5 of Pentacles is traditionally the card of poverty and lack, of being shut out from all the good things in life. I'm trying to find a positive slant on this, but whatever happens it looks like McCain is going to feel on the outside of things. Although, as I said, I hesitate to make predictions, this does not look good for McCain. It might be close, it might be a landslide for Obama, or (and it seems unlikely) McCain might win. If he does, it's going to feel like a Pyhrric Victory. Whatever the result, he's going to feel as though he's lost.

4. What will this election mean for the American people?
XIV Temperance
For the American people, this election is a chance to put things back into balance. It's a real opportunity to heal the divisions and polarities of the Bush years and start building bridges. This is going to be a tricky, delicate process for whoever becomes president, but in this election the people are going to demonstrate their deep-seated desire for unity, whether it's McCain's professed willingness to work with politicians of all parties, or Obama's positive refrains of change and hope.

5. What will this election mean for the rest of the world?
XII Hanged Man
A new president will not be a magic bullet in terms of the US's relations with the rest of the world. Transformation will be slow in coming and will require a willingness of other countries to be patient and suspend judgement on the new president. This could manifest in a number of ways - it may be disappointment at the lack of an early withdrawal from Iraq or the US dragging its heels over a solution to the global financial crisis. This card may also indicate a disappointment with the result from countries outside the US - which would seem to point to a McCain win, given Obama's global popularity.

What do you think? If you are an American, have you voted yet? How is your experience of this election reflected in these cards? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks. I learn from each example that you show.

Thanks for your comment, hungry mother :) Now it's all over, I wonder if that 8 of Swords was more about fear of things going wrong than reality. It seems that anxiety about a repeat of the problems in the last two elections really motivated people to make their vote count.
