Genesis of the Quantum

The Quantum Tarot was born almost two and a half years ago out of a discussion between myself and illustrator Chris Butler. I told him I'd had a crazy idea to create a tarot themed around modern physics. I expected him to laugh, or at least look at me askance, but instead he thought it was a great idea and offered to illustrate the deck there and then. We met up for a day of experimentation and discussion, tried a few ideas, and a deck was born.

Out of that first session came the Fool and Death cards (see above). We posted these on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum, and the response was so positive that it not only encouraged us to keep going, but to post the remainder of the deck in progress as we worked over the following few months. Reading the thread again, I'm still heartened by the support and encouragement we received from the folks there. It's also a fascinating insight into the evolution of a deck - at two years' distance, I had forgotten how hard we worked, and how many changes some of the cards went through. I'm so glad that this record of the process still exists out there in cyberspace!
